这是一座地处大山深处、人口稀少的小村庄。村中的小学内，孩子们欢快的呼声仿佛就在昨天，然而如今这里却再也看不到一个小天使的身影。人口老龄化和过疏化，让村子变得老态龙钟，暮气沉沉。前校长（坂本长利 饰）打理着早已关闭的旧校舍，就像对待自己的孩子般恋恋不舍，而校舍终将迎来拆除的命运。某天，曾在该小学长大的野田（西岛秀俊 饰）回到村中，如今他是某博物馆馆员，因为学校内不久出土了绳文时期的文物，因此被派来做清查。此外，他还希望能够找到当初亲手埋下的时间胶囊。
