1980年，乡村教师严义国儿子严振华和学生唐剑被选拔到哈尔滨的重点体校，从小在雪原中长大的两人带着希望一路拼搏，唐剑因为一次意外折戟速滑战场。严振华跟城中姑娘李冰河成为双人滑搭档并相恋，但经历了种种波折，两人遗憾分手，严振华转向短道速滑继续奋斗，三人最终分道扬镳。2019年，中国正在为2022年冬奥会做充足准备。严振华儿子严阳从地方俱乐部入选短道速滑国家奥运训练营，结识了唐寒、金莹等优秀队员，也遇到了冠军教练陈谨、队医李念雪等。他从女队员的陪练一路奋进到正式队员，对体育精神、奥运精神的理解逐渐深刻，找寻到父辈故事的他更加坚定自己奋斗的道路，也收获了爱情和友情。上一代的冬奥征程充满着拓荒的遗憾和无尽的惋惜，而新时代的冰雪人接过接力棒，奋斗不止。。That day is seared into the memory of every human being on the planet: the day the world changed.
