晏怀瑾为护林秋柔战场假死，致三千将士惨死。真相败露将军府获罪，萧致趁机向暗恋的苏徊月求婚助其脱困。苏徊月为保家族嫁入王府，萧致隐瞒真相呵护，假死的晏怀瑾不知，二人已相知相守共度余生。。故事发生在1893年，英国军队入侵印度，驻扎在一个干旱连连的小村庄里。除了要面对尴尬的收成和糟糕的气候，村民们还得应付沉重的苛捐杂税，一时间生活苦不堪言。
