Parisian bourgeois art dealer Robert Klein (Delon) wakes up one morning in 1942 to find a Jewish newspaper delivered to his door, addressed to a Mr. Klein. Determined to find the Jewish Klein, who is using his identity as a cover-up, Robert Klein soon finds himself situated in a Kafkaesque nightmare. Delon was the ideal choice to play a man who has to stand up against the world. The film's lukewarm reception when first released in France was more a reflection of the public's resistance to Losey's honest portrayal of the country's ill treatment towards the Jews during WWII than a critique on the film's artistic achievement that won MR.KLEIN two Cesar Awards (Best Film and Best Director).。
