江户时代末期，在那场惨烈的战争结束后，幕府认输了，天人逐渐渗透到了江户居民的生活当中去，武士道的精神在慢慢衰落，当年骁勇善战的攘夷志士们，也都隐姓埋名得过起了隐居的生活。为了维持父亲的道场，志村新八（坂口大助 配音）和姐姐志村妙（雪野五月 配音）不得不辛苦的工作。为了生 存，在跋扈的天人面前，新八必须忍辱负重。某天，一个自然卷白毛的出现改变了新八的生活，他狠狠教训了欺负新八的天人，却也害得新八丢了唯一的工作。气急败坏的新八追随他的脚步来到了位于小酒吧二楼的“万事屋”，随后他发现，“万事屋”的老板，这个叫做坂田银时（杉田智和 配音）的男人，尽管表面上悠闲懒散，但是却有着一颗“坚决贯彻自己的武士道”的正直的心。银时雇佣了新八，在此之后，对这个时代彻底失望的新八渐渐认识了围绕在银时周围的，善良而美好的人们。
